The Great Temple of Abu Simbel enters the third LEGO Ideas 2023 review

A second fan-designed model has joined the third LEGO Ideas review of 2023, with the Great Temple of Abu Simbel also hitting the 10K mark.

The third LEGO Ideas review stage recently kicked off, with Modular Heritage Museum being the first successful design to drum up 10,000 supporters. It’s now been joined by a second fan creation in the shape of the Great Temple of Abu Simbel, an epic 3,000-piece model that’s the brainchild of ilPas.

Fascinated by Ancient Egypt, the designer was inspired to construct a brick-built version of the structure that was originally assembled during the reign of King Ramesses II on the shore of Lake Nasser. Standing 40cm tall, 28cm wide and 28cm deep, the Great Temple of Abu Simbel is packed with details, such as four colossal statues guarding the entrance, a bas-relief on the rear, sliding doors and much more.

In addition, the submission also includes a secret puzzle located somewhere within the pyramid’s depths which, when discovered, reveals a treasure chamber filled with gold and ancient artefacts. The set is rounded out with impressive minifigures of both King Ramesses II and his wife, Queen Nefertari.

It’s way too early to say if the Great Temple of Abu Simbel is in with a shot of becoming a physical LEGO set at some point in the future, as the LEGO Ideas review team won’t be making their selection until sometime in January 2024.
