LEGO Star Wars is rumoured to be releasing busts in 2026, raising questions about what a bust can achieve that a helmet doesn't already.
LEGO Star Wars 75304 Darth Vader Helmet is often touted as one of the best helmets on the market, so when rumours started swirling this week that the LEGO Group might be bringing out 75439 Darth Vader Bust in 2026, it's hard to imagine where else a display model based on the iconic character could go. That question becomes especially intriguing when you note the rumoured price of $59.99 – $20 cheaper than 75304's RRP of $79.99.
As 75304 Darth Vader Helmet is heading for retirement at the end of this year, there's certainly room for a display-centred build based on Vader. However, with a bust presumably covering more ground than just the head for a cheaper price, some sacrifices on detail would presumably need to be made. Of course, we're just speculating here based on the rumoured information we have for now, which should be taken with a pinch of salt for now, but we've got some ideas nonetheless.
Less sculpting, more armour

75304 Darth Vader Helmet focuses on (you guessed it) the helmet, with impressive sculpting and detail around the breathing apparatus, eyes, and the lower slopes that take the brick-built helmet from good to great. If the rumoured bust is going to presumably include at least the shoulders and some of Vader's chest, we can likely expect some of the detail around the helmet and head to be lost.
That's not necessarily a bad thing. Considering we already have 75304 Darth Vader Helmet, having a broader recreation of Vader, perhaps complete with his control box that regulates his life support on his chest, would bring something new to a Vader display model.
It's potential inclusions like this that would make Vader a strong choice for the rumoured set: the Sith Lord has such detailed costume design, despite wearing all black, that there are plenty of characteristics to pick out that make him uniquely Vader, even if some of the finer details are skated over.
The shoulders could even include the top of his iconic cloak, to add greater depth to the display, and the hard plated armour that covers the top of his chest and shoulders, before giving away to cloth below.
Studded into smooth

Considering LEGO Marvel has already released two busts, we can perhaps find some clues in the 2025 releases. In the case of 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust, the designers opted for a tiled finish in the vast majority of the build – quite different from both 76165 Iron Man Helmet and 75304 Darth Vader Helmet.
The rumoured 75439 Darth Vader Bust could follow the same lead; it would be in line with the smooth black armour that Vader is known for. That would require fewer pieces for sculpting around the head, allowing for more to be used lower down for the body armour elements we've already touched upon.
Again, this would offer a fresh look for a displayable Vader, bringing something new to the table in the wake of the helmet's retirement. To help the possible bust stand out from previous display-centred Star Wars LEGO sets, doing something new is a must to prevent it from feeling like a lazy repurposing of a helmet design – one of the criticisms levelled at the LEGO Marvel busts.
