Five LEGO Ideas projects that will probably make it through the third 2022 review

A total of 36 LEGO Ideas projects are gunning to become an official set in the third 2022 review, and there are at least five that we can see making it through to production.

Predicting which LEGO Ideas projects will get the green light after racking up 10,000 votes from the community – as is the standard process for the crowdsourcing platform – isn’t an easy task, but more than a decade’s worth of CUUSOO (as it was formerly known) and Ideas sets have established a couple of patterns, giving us benchmarks to build from.

And it’s through that lens that we can look at the full list of projects in the third 2022 review – the qualifying window for which closed earlier this week – and make our best guesses at which will come out on top. Here are five credible candidates for future LEGO Ideas sets from this current crop, along with the reasons why…

5 – Pac-Man

Video games? Tick. ‘80s nostalgia? Tick. Built-in functionality? Tick. It’s hard to find a box that LiteBricks’ Pac-Man build doesn’t tick, with one eye on what the LEGO Group considers its target audience to be right now. This would slide in very nicely next to 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog – Green Hill Zone and 10306 Atari 2600, without cannibalising either of those sets.

4 – The Wright Flyer

The Wright Flyer 1024x590

It’s been a very long time since the LEGO Group gave us a realistic, adult-focused aircraft model, along the lines of 2002’s 10024 Red Baron and 2012’s 10226 Sopwith Camel. The LEGO Ideas theme would be the perfect avenue to resurrect that subtheme, particularly given nothing else in the line (or on shelves) would compete with it. And is there any plane more iconic than the Wright Flyer, as expertly realised here by Kmayne_bricks?

3 – Architect’s House

Between City, Friends, Creator 3-in-1 and the Modular Buildings Collection, LEGO houses are 10 a penny at the moment. But none of them quite fill the same niche as LEt.sGO’s Architect’s House: a complex and adult-targeted display model of modern architecture, which presents an abode we’d very much like to live in, please and thank you. The upcoming A-Frame Cabin may count against this one, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

2 – Community

LEGO Ideas Community

The LEGO Ideas team has previously stated that much of its decision-making process hinges on timing, which means it could be second time lucky for Ivan Guerrero’s Community project. With 21336 The Office now on shelves, the LEGO Group currently has no sitcom sets in the pipeline (that we know about), and Community’s cult status could be enough to get a LEGO set off the ground. It has hit the 10K mark twice now, after all – and the Community movie is apparently in the works at last...

1 – Jack Skellington’s House

What are the crucial ingredients for a LEGO set based on a classic ‘90s movie? It’s the LEGO Group’s favourite buzzword again: anniversary. This year marks the 30th birthday of Tim Burton’s classic The Nightmare Before Christmas, and while it’s going to be a tight squeeze, there’s every chance the LEGO Ideas team could seize the opportunity to rush out Laurgo23’s Jack Skellington’s House before the year is out.
