Five key takeaways from yesterday’s new LEGO reveals

We've had some rapid-fire LEGO reveals in the last 24 hours, so let's break down some of the best takeaways you might have missed.

Yesterday saw the LEGO Group reveal (deep breath) one new LEGO Botanicals set, three for Lunar New Year, one NINJAGO anniversary model, and the very first LEGO Star Trek set. With so many sets revealed within hours or even minutes of one another, we've picked out some key takeaways from the newly revealed sets that shouldn't get overlooked.

Botanicals delivers on versatile parts once again

LEGO Botanicals 11501 Tulip Bouquet new parts 1200x801

LEGO Botanicals as a theme is often a source of handy new parts and 11501 Tulip Bouquet is no exception. The red and yellow flowers include new one-leaf versions of the three-pronged leaf element that was introduced in 10348 Japanese Red Maple Bonsai earlier this year.

As well as being a handy part for more blooming builds, if you're keeping one eye on 2026 releases, it could also prove useful for Pokémon sets in the new year. Grass-type Pokémon could use them for leafy arms or armour, or layer them up for arms, legs, scales, or vines. The leaves include studs, meaning they can attach to one another, as well as to rods as in 11501 Tulip Bouquet.

Meet another Year Of...minifigure

LEGO 80119 Galloping Horse Canvas 19 1200x675

With another LEGO Lunar New Year set comes another 'Year of the *insert animal here* minifigure. For 2026, that's the Year of the Horse, resulting in a minifigure with a horse head accessory. In recent years, we've had the Year of the Dragon minifigure in 80113 Family Reunion Celebration and Year of the Snake minifigure in 80116 Trotting Lantern.

The Year of the Horse minifigure feels a little more simplistic, especially when compared to the golden dragon accessory, but perhaps there's only so much you can do with a slightly more run of the mill animal.

Star Trek's Wesley is a man out of time

LEGO Icons 10365 Wesley Crusher 576x1024

Wesley Crusher appears in 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D with shorter legs and a sweater instead of a uniform, placing him squarely in an early season of the show. However, the other uniformed characters wear V-necks, which puts them around the third season or later.

It's a clashing of time periods if you want to dig into the details, but from a design perspective, it mixes up the design of the minifigures for greater diversity. An adult Wesley in uniform would only be different from the others thanks to his accessory and face print, whereas including his sweater-wearing version adds a bit more range to what would otherwise be quite a samey cast of characters.

LEGO mixes media for the Lunar New Year

LEGO 80119 Galloping Horse Canvas 15 1024x1024

The centrepiece of LEGO 80119 Galloping Horses Canvas is actually...not LEGO. The main focus of the set is based around a large fabric element, printed with galloping horses. It's not the first time that LEGO sets have used other materials than the humble LEGO brick (see the dragon's wings in 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale or the specially-made plastic in 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera as just a couple of examples) but rarely does it play such a starring role.

That's not to say that there aren't examples of creative building in 80119, however. The brick-built horses in the foreground are a magnificent example of creature building, while the waves in medium azul and bright yellow add an incredible amount of depth and colour to an already vivid model.

How the times have changed

71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith not only returns to the very first location from the NINJAGO TV show, but also a previous LEGO set that first came out in 2011 – and what a difference 15 years can make. 2508 Blacksmith Shop is made up of just 189 pieces, which is fewer than some of the GWPs releasing this month.

By comparison, 71858 Four Weapons Blacksmith uses 1,259 pieces, more than six times the piece count of its predecessor. The change is dramatic, with far more detail and colour on the exterior, more time spent on smoothing out the walls and roof – and of course many more minifigures than the original release.
