Five luxury details to spot in LEGO Ideas 21344 The Orient Express Train

LEGO Ideas 21344 The Orient Express Train is packed with luxurious details worthy of its subject matter and here are five we’ve already spotted.

The LEGO Group recently revealed its 52nd LEGO Ideas set, with 21344 The Orient Express Train due to shunt into view on December 1. The 2,540-piece build will be priced at £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99 and comes with eight minifigures, a locomotive, a coal tender and two passenger cars.

Created in close collaboration with licensor The Orient Express, the LEGO Ideas model looks to accurately replicate the appropriate levels of luxury travel associated with its world famous subject matter. From the images we've seen so far, the dark blue, black and gold 21344 The Orient Express Train appears to be packed with all kinds of upper class details and here are five we’ve already spotted.

5 – Magic mirror

Inside the vouture-lit (sleeping car), you’ll find intricately-designed and opulent rooms that complement the status of 21344 The Orient Express Train’s passengers. On one wall is a sticker used to recreate the magic mirrors in the cabins, which are included to simulate the illusion of the carriage rooms being much larger than they actually are.

4 – Cupcake flower lamps

There are numerous red table lamps dotted throughout 21344 The Orient Express Train that are in fact repurposed cupcake elements. These pieces offers a simple and elegant way of representing the same small lamps found in the real-life Orient Express carriages.

3 – The first ever LEGO Police Officer

Look closely on one of the bunkbeds in the LEGO Ideas passenger car and you’ll spot what appears to be a printed newspaper tile. Take a closer peak and you’ll see an image of the very first LEGO Police Officer minifigure, which made its debut way back in 1978.

2 – Minion heads and gold pens

21344 The Orient Express Train utilises a number of recoloured and all-new pieces in the set’s construction. Of note are dark blue Minion heads that act as steam domes on the locomotive, multiple 3x3 windows in pearl gold and the first ever pearl gold pen elements used for the train’s whistles.

1 – Blackbirds & Grapes panel

As well as stickered pieces representing ornate inlaid wood panels, the voiture-restaurant (dining car) also includes a distinct ‘cut-glass’ mirror. What may be a stickered element represents designer René Lalique’s Art Deco style “Merles et Raisins” (Blackbirds & Grapes) panels, which were recovered from the original Nostalgie-Istanbul-Orient Express cars and added to the modern-day Orient Express.

Prepare to get on board 21344 The Orient Express Train when it launches on December 1 for £259.99 / $299.99 / €299.99 and be sure to take a much closer look at the LEGO Ideas model in our visual tour and gallery.
