How Fabuland changed LEGO forever (without anyone noticing)

How Fabuland changed LEGO forever (without anyone noticing)

With the next LEGO House exclusive set now confirmed to be returning to the long-dormant Fabuland, let's take a walk down memory lane.

LEGO House exclusives tend to take little pieces of the LEGO House experience in Billund and package them as models, so you can head home from Denmark with a brick-built memento of your time at the home of the brick. For example, 40366 LEGO House Dinosaurs is a miniature version of the enormous dino display that you can view in person at LEGO House.

The latest reveal is slightly different, however. 40506 LEGO Fabuland Tribute returns to a theme that ran for 10 years between 1979 and 1989. As well as the bright colours of the sets, the theme's defining feature was the Fabuland Figures, featuring humanoid animals – not dissimilar to the current LEGO Animal Crossing sets.

If you have been a long-term LEGO fan from certain regions around the world, we're probably preaching to the choir right now. If, on the other hand, you've never heard the word Fabuland in your life, Matthew is here to help.

Join him in our latest video for a history lesson on Fabuland, the most fun you'll ever have in a history lesson, guaranteed. Even for those steeped in Fabuland lore, he's dug out some lesser-known facts that even OG fans might not know.
