Just like an upcoming short, Disney's Wish movie will have more than a few references to films from the company's 100-year history.
Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Disney's upcoming Wish movie will include several nods to classic films, showcasing one specific Easter egg in a new image. Disney Wish is currently scheduled to be released on November 22, 2023.
"They're all over the movie," Director Chris Buck says to the outlet. "We are compiling a list, and I couldn't tell you how long it is now. Each department puts things in and there's some that we don't even know are there yet, and we may not know until they tell us."
One of the references is the framing of the film itself, which uses a wide aspect ratio as was used in 1959's Sleeping Beauty.
"It's a wider screen. So, it just has that epic feel to it — and the story does too," Buck comments. "The way things are framed, it's purposeful," Director Fawn Veerasunthorn clarifies, "and we embarked on that journey with the same thinking."
"We wanted to make a movie that celebrates the joy of Disney and make a movie for the fans," notes Buck. "It's a hundred years. The Disney audience has kept us going and kept this studio going, and so there's so much of that."
The reference featured in the preview image, for those who hadn't spotted it already, is the poison apple from Snow White, featuring alongside the film's villain King Magnifico. As for the rest of the Easter eggs, we'll have to wait until November 22 to see what else is referenced.
