Comparing the LEGO Star Wars dioramas to older scene sets

From a galaxy far, far away, a new collection of LEGO Star Wars sets is launching soon, but we've seen similar sets based on these scenes before.

75329 Death Star Trench Run Diorama, 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama and 75339 Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama are launching soon, April 26, 2022, but we've already seen these three scenes in LEGO sets, and they offer an interesting comparison.

That's not to detract from any of this upcoming trio as these older models focus much more on play than display, as indicated by the LEGO for Adults label on all three 2022 creations.

For this list, we've picked out the most relevant LEGO set for most, though 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama will be compared to two since one was a convention exclusive.

3 – 75329 Death Star Trench Run Diorama

Starting with 75329 Death Star Trench Run Diorama, the only other build based on the trench run was 75235 X-wing Starfighter Trench Run from 2019, though there are more differences than similarities here since one is a 4+ set, and the other is targeted at ages 18 and older.

Both include a model for Luke Skywalker's X Wing as well as a turret but otherwise, the 2019 build arguably wasn't the best representation of the trench run, since it lacked the titular trench.

2 – 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama

The last model of Yoda's Dagobah home was released in 2018 with 75208 Yoda's Hut, including the same selection of minifigures as 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama. However, it might be more accurate to compare the new Diorama to a convention-exclusive set.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2015 Dagobah Mini Build was offered to guests, and although it's in microscale, it has much the same layout as 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama with the hut on the left and a curved swamp section on the right.

1 – 75339 Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama

The final of the three LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection sets out on April 26 is 75339 Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama, depicting a room only even seen in the two huge Death Star models.

In 75159 Death Star, the most recent re-release, this room was just one section of the model and featured two solid walls at angles that could compress the interior, moving loose parts as it does. The theatre-like function of 75339 Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama which sees modules slide with the walls will at least keep things tidier.
