Captain Rex rumoured to return to LEGO Star Wars in 2024

Captain Rex is currently available exclusively in LEGO Star Wars 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser, but that’s now rumoured to change in 2024…

The fan-favourite Clone Trooper has been high on wishlists for several years, and has finally materialised for the first time since 2013 in this year’s flagship LEGO Star Wars set. But unless you have £559.99 / $649.99 / €649.99 lying around to spend on 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser – or are prepared to pony up the aftermarket cost for the character – Captain Rex is still inaccessible.

That’s all set to change next year, though – at least if the latest rumour from Instagram user tandnbricks is to be believed. The previously-reliable source has claimed in a Q&A on 2024 sets that Captain Rex will return next year, though has not specified in what capacity, nor the set in which we can expect to see the leader of the 501st Legion.

The Rex minifigure bundled in with 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser aims for the same detail we’ve come to expect from Ultimate Collector Series characters. He doesn’t boast dual-moulded legs, like C-3PO in 75341 Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder or Luke himself in 75355 X-wing Starfighter, nor even a fabric kama – ostensibly to match other clone characters – but he does have arm printing and a uniquely-printed head.

Whether those same details would carry over into future Captain Rex minifigures is uncertain, and indeed unlikely, given the instruction manual for 75367 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser calls out both Rex and Admiral Yularen as exclusive minifigures. If the same Rex popped up in a much cheaper set in 2024, it would instantly invalidate that claim.

A more likely scenario is that a LEGO Star Wars 2024 set includes a slightly less detailed version of Captain Rex (perhaps lacking arm printing, for instance), making the character more accessible to wider audiences but keeping the most polished version unique to the UCS Venator. That’s pure speculation at this point, though: the only detail tandnbricks has shared is that Rex will return.

And even that is still just a rumour at this point, so take it with a grain of salt until we get confirmation one way or the other from the LEGO Group. The current list of LEGO Star Wars sets rumoured for 2024 doesn’t include an obvious gap in which Rex might appear, but there are still multiple product numbers with no details attached. If he does show up again, he may be on shelves alongside fellow trooper Fives, who’s said to be one of multiple 25th-anniversary minifigures in 2024.
