In a first-time 10K project for fan designer Jimmi-DK, the iconic '70s Sony Walkman gets the LEGO treatment in a lifesize design.
Built with many of the authentic features, such as buttons, headphone jacks and prints on several pieces, Sony Walkman looks very close to the real thing. It also has some functionality (although no sound brick) with the ability to open and insert one of three LEGO cassette tapes. It also comes with its own set of headphones, perfect for displaying as though you've just put it down after listening.
Although Jimmi-DK's design doesn't include a sound brick, the recent release of 10334 Retro Radio shows what's possible to mimic music and sounds using the humble element. If this project is selected by the LEGO Ideas team, it could well be incorporated for an even more convincing LEGO set.
Of course, Sony Walkman still needs to win over the other 12 LEGO Ideas projects currently in the second 2024 review round. Here's a reminder of the competition so far.
