Taking inspiration from Paz Vizsla’s selfless act towards the closing episodes of the third season of Disney+ show The Mandalorian, LEGO Star Wars 75386 Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle is a mid-range set with plenty going for it, from a decent-sized piece of scenery to a collection of unique and desirable minifigures.

LEGO Star Wars 75386 Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle of course could only focus on a doorway. What could otherwise potentially be a dull background build – which, let’s be honest, LEGO Star Wars does sometimes throw into sets – is instead a detailed, sizeable and wholly relevant build that takes centre stage in what is a poignant LEGO set, for the scene it helps to capture in LEGO form.
And before you start to yawn, a good door done well can often make for a very strong LEGO Star Wars set – think 75171 Battle on Scarif from 2017 or 8038 The Battle of Endor from 2009. Star Wars action and story loves a good door to base it all around, and LEGO Star Wars can sometimes offer the best play experiences when it focuses on capturing enough of that same simplicity in the story and action that such doorways can witness (for whatever that reason is in a galaxy far, far away).
Is 75386 Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle such a set? Absolutely. It’s an intricate and well-sized build of a set that gives real authenticity to the scene that it is designed to depict. There is playable space and points of action on both sides of the door (albeit more so on the front side) and excellent design that very well captures the aesthetic of a slick Imperial base cut into the ragged rockwork of underground Mandalore.
As far as play features go, whilst the swivelling turret with flick-firing guns is a little junior, it’s not wholly misplaced. Meanwhile the opening and closing function of the door is nicely realised, so that it can be held open of its own accord, or closed shut (as is relevant to the story at play) of its own weight.
As mentioned, the space that the set creates is perfectly effective for play or display, and whilst there’s very little else to say about the build that’s better reflective of an effective simplicity in design rather than something featureless and dull.

LEGO Star Wars 75386 Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle includes four minifigures, starting with Paz Vizsla returning after three years away with the same design as was in 2021’s
Facing this Mandalorian down is Moff Gideon, complete with a fancy new helmet mould. As is the case with the new Imperial Commandos in 75373 Ambush on Mandalore Battle Pack, the scale of the helmet for Moff Gideon is very nicely done (it’s likely the highlight of the entire set) and we can dream that it’s a sign that the era of over-sized helmets like on the current Stormtrooper minifigure is ending. This Moff Gideon also benefits from a change to a more accurate skin tone too.
Two Imperial Praetorian Guards round out the line-up for 75386 Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle and whilst the proportions of their helmets does feel a little funky at first, their overall design is very nicely realised in minifigure form. Those helmets are textured too, for a very surprising and nice detail.
Some may have expected a skirt piece rather than legs for these guards, but with legs these characters are at least more poseable, which is a good thing considering the amount of action they see. The only real downside? A glance at recent NINJAGO minifigures and their weapons will leave you puzzled for why these LEGO Praetorians are wielding quite chunky-looking things.

If the build to LEGO Star Wars 75386 Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle wasn’t half as good as it is then it would be a more divisive set priced at £34.99 / $39.99 / €39.99, with pressure on the minifigures and negative comparisons to battle packs. However, the set as a whole is credible both for being interesting to put together and fun to play with and display, whilst the line-up of included characters is wholly authentic to the scene being re-enacted. Price-wise, then, there is value to be found here.

LEGO Star Wars 75386 Paz Vizsla and Moff Gideon Battle takes what could have been boring – a door – and makes it interesting to build and very playable and displayable once complete. Doorways are a big thing in Star Wars and when done well in LEGO sets are as playable as any starship or vehicle, and 75386 is one example of why.

It sits between the likes of 75346 Pirate Snub Fighter at £29.99 and 75358 Tenoo Jedi Temple at £37.99, and way lower than 75361 Spider Tank at £46.99, and it arguably offers more than any of those sets.
Alternatives to one side, this thing is compatible with 75373 Ambush on Mandalore Battle Pack, making the two together feel like one massive (and quite expensive) battle pack.
