LEGO City 60691 Jungle Explorer Base Camp to debut new technology

LEGO City 60691 Jungle Explorer Base Camp has been revealed along with a trial program featuring a new kind of technology for LEGO sets.

Another LEGO City jungle exploration model has been revealed on the official online store via a unique landing page for a trial program in which families in the UK are being invited to take part, reports Brickset. It could revolutionise the way we play with LEGO sets via some new interactive elements.

60691 Hero2 Standard Small

60691 Jungle Explorer Base Camp features a new interactive brick and three interactive minifigures that can react to specific parts of the set including the truck, the helicopter and more. Official images tease the function of these interactive elements and it seems to be a game-changer for LEGO models.

For now, it seems unlikely that 60691 Jungle Explorer Base Camp will be widely sold, at least until the trial is over and only those who sign up for the trial program and are accepted will receive the model as they test its functions and determine what needs to be improved and changed before a wide release. You can sign up by filling out a form linked on the landing page for the new set, provided that you are eligible.

For the rest of us, it's an exciting revelation and we can look forward to seeing where this trial leads, though we'd advise keeping expectations in check for now. The interactive brick appears to be fairly big and you can see it between the flames in the volcano. The minifigures seem to be normal minifigures, though the technology could be contained within their structure. The description mentions tile tags, which may be what the new pieces react to.

A release date, price and more details regarding 60691 Jungle Explorer Base Camp have yet to be shared as the set has not yet received a full product page on the official online store. Should it be planned for a wide release, it may be at least a few months or more from launch.

In the meantime, many LEGO City summer 2024 models have recently been released, aside from in the US where the rest will launch in August.
